Howl’s Moving Castle (2004)
Dir. Hayao Miyazaki
I’m still pretty surprised that Christian Bale took on this role for Howl considering his filmography. I mean, as good a voice as he has let’s take a look at some of his most notable films and see if they actually seem like he’d be the type to do an animated movie.
Off the top of my head and in chronological order—as far as I can remember—here’s a list of his notable movies:
- Empire of the Sun
- American Psycho
- Reign of Fire
- Equilibrium
- The Machinist
- Batman Begins
- The Prestige
- 3:10 to Yuma
- The Dark Knight
- Terminator Salvation
- Public Enemies
- The Fighter
Not exactly the type of resume one would expect to see in someone doing an animated film, but then again I’m also forgetting he had a role in Pocahontas as well.
What does this even mean: “considering his filmography”? Do famous, talented non-voice actors need to fall under a certain film criteria to dub animation? Besides, Christian Bale wasn’t nearly as well-known as he is now when he voiced Howl.
Now if you’re saying that Christian Bale doesn’t seem like someone who would involve himself in a fun project like voice acting, then I might agree with that.
